The Clan MacEwen Society

Founded

Originally established in 1977 as the Clan Ewen Society. In 2019, members voted to officially rename it the Clan MacEwen Society.

Vision

“Clan MacEwen’s heritage, traditions, and values remain strong for future generations.”

Mission Statement

To preserve and promote the ancient heritage, traditions, and values of Clan MacEwen, foster unity and collaboration among Society members, and contribute to local communities through cultural events, education, and charitable work.

Goals

  • Ensure continued access to our ancestral homeland.
  • Preserve and share Clan MacEwen heritage and traditions with kindred across the globe.
  • Establish a strong global profile for Clan MacEwen.
  • Maintain governance and leadership practices aligned with best standards.

Who We Are

Membership is open to all—wherever you reside—who:

  • Bear any derivative of the MacEwen name,
  • Claim Clan family descent, or
  • Hold a sincere interest in the Clan’s heritage.

Our Leadership

In 2014, a derbhfine (family council) was held, where Sir John McEwen, 5th Baronet of Marchmont and Bardrochat—whose family has long been regarded as Clan leaders—was nominated by the Clan and approved by the Lord Lyon as Commander of Clan MacEwen. This Commandership was reaffirmed by the Clan during the International Gathering in 2019.

Traditionally, a commandership lasts for ten years, during which the Commander must demonstrate leadership and earn sustained support from the Clan.

In 2025, having fulfilled these duties, Sir John MacEwen was named Chief of the Clan, completing the modern restoration of Clan MacEwen’s leadership.
