The MacEwen Tartan
Tartans
Tartan is a distinctive woven pattern of criss-crossing horizontal and vertical bands in two or more colors. Each tartan’s unique combination of hues and stripe widths is called a “sett,” and traditionally served as a wearable identifier of Scottish clans, families, or regions. Beyond its clan associations, tartan has become a symbol of Highland heritage and craftsmanship: the interplay of woolen threads creates both bold color contrasts and subtle texture, making every piece—from kilts to scarves—a celebration of history, identity, and skilled weaving traditions.
MacEwen tartan closely resembles Farquharson and MacLeod of Harris. The sett is similar to Campbell of Loudon tartan except that a red stripe is substituted for white.
